The high altitude lake of Joux is a fine illustration of an eco-responsible ski area project, carried out in close collaboration with the municipality and its farmers.
This lake has 3 objectives: to control the water resource for artificial snow, to enable the historical agricultural use of the mountain pastures and to develop agrotourism.
Created in 2018, this 35,000m3 reservoir has a very natural appearance. It supplies half of the water needs for the snow cannons and all of the needs of the mountain pastures.
Flavie Melendez, from the farm Roches Fleuries, talks about the success of this project:
“At the beginning, we were worried, but after updating the grazing conventions in connection with the SEA74, the relaunch of this enclosed space allows us to feed our herd of 35 milk cows in summer and 70 goats with cheese production. The water resource with the lake is essential and we are considering developing agrotourim. "
