Scheduled for December 2022!

This year, the Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc Ski Area will replace the Arbois 2-seater fixed-grip chairlift with a detachable 6-seater chairlift. Work started at the beginning of May so that the device would be ready for the start of the 2022/2023 season.

The departure and arrival stations will be replaced. The Mont d'Arbois Ski patrol hut will be rebuilt and a digital piste map will be installed.

Technical characteristics of the new chairlift:

• - MANUFACTURER: Leitner
• - TYPE: 6-seater detachable chairlift
• - LENGTH: 810m long and 250m drop
• - CAPACITY: 2400 people per hour
• - Quick start in winter in difficult weather conditions
• - Storage of vehicles in the station outside operation for landscape integration in summer

Budget : 7 million d'euros

ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS were taken into account during the consultation and the realization of the project. The choice of supplier was guided by criteria such as the carbon footprint for the construction of the chairlift, the measures proposed to reduce the environmental impacts, the energy consumption of the lift in operation, landscape integration, etc. This results in a range of actions and technology choices, including:

- The work was entrusted to local companies,
- An ecologist guarantees the  to protect the natural environment,
- Bird protection measures are implemented with the expertise of Asters (Conservatory of natural spaces of Haute-Savoie),
- The new chairlift is equipped with an automatic eco-driving system to adapt the speed of the device to the attendance in order to optimize energy consumption,
- Chairlift seats storage outside of operating periods reduces the visual impact on the natural environment.

Other criteria are obviously taken into account in the choice of chairlift: the comfort and safety of passengers and operating personnel. With a capacity of 2,400 people per hour, the new Nants chairlift offers improved transport conditions thanks to innovative solutions. Vigilance and fluidity when boarding is increased by a system of "intelligent cameras" which alert the operator and the user in the event of an anomaly (guardrail not lowered).

This ski area modernization project is an integral part of the STBMA's (operating company) desire to always improve the customer experience.

SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS FOR SKIERS:

• - More comfort and safety with smooth boarding and disembarking;
• - Faster with increased capacity and reduced travel time;
• - In case of a waiting line at the gondola, alternative access to the upper sectors of the ski area via the TSD Monts Rosset > Clairières slope> new TSD6 Nants;
• - Enhancement of this ski sector which has remarkable slopes and benefits from exceptional snow cover.
